Cast of Grey’s Anatomy
The first characters introduced on Grey’s Anatomy are the medical interns Meredith Grey (played by Ellen Pompeo), George O’Malley (played by T.R. Knight), Alex Karev (played by Justin Chambers), Izzie Stevens (played by Katherine Heigl), and Christina Yang (played by Sandra Oh). They start as interns at Seatle Grace Hospital. Their mentor is Miranda Bailey (played by Chandra Wilson). The entire program is run by the Chief of Surgery Dr. Richard Webber (played by James Pickens, Jr.). There are also two attending physicians Preston Burke (played by Isaiah Washington) who specializes in cardiothoracic surgery and Derek Shepherd (played by Patrick Dempsey) who specializes in neurosurgery. In the second season, Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh) is introduced as a series regular as a OB/GYN and neonatal surgeon. Mark Sloan (played by Eric Dane) is also introduced as a series regular as is orthopedic surgeon Callie Torres (played by Sara Ramirez). In the third season, Meredith’s half sister enters the show as the intern Lexie Gray (played by Chyler Leigh). In the fourth season a new cardiothoracic surgeon is introduced, Eria Hahn (played by Brooke Smith). Two new characters are introduced in the fifth season: Owen Hunt (played by Kevin McKidd) who is a truama surgeon and Arizona Robbins (played by Jessica Capshaw) who is a pediatic surgeon. In the sixth season, new characters are introducted when a merger occurs between Mercy West and Seatle Grace.
TR Night, Isaiah Washington, and Brooke Smith are no longer on the show. Kate Walsh continues to make guest appearances.
